Smoked Brisket

Smoked Brisket

Brisket has always been a daunting cut to me due to the time committment, slightly higher cost than other cuts, and the required attention and care it needs during the cook. The first time I tried cooking one I was a bit rushed for time and the final result wasn't as impressive as I had hoped. I've followed Aaron Franklin for years now and just recently purchased his book, Franklin BBQ: A Meat Smoking Manifesto. The first chapter inspired me to give brisket another go and I'm sure glad I did.

The Gameπ - Handheld Retro Gaming Console

The Gameπ - Handheld Retro Gaming Console

When I first stumbled upon the various Handheld Raspberry Pi Retro Gaming Consoles, I knew I needed to build one. I didn't want to simply copy someone else's design though; I wanted the challenge of designing and building my own custom game console. There are great examples out there and I wanted to combine all of their strengths into one design. The initial cost of these can be $200+, so I also wanted to make it affordable while not skimping on the functionality. It was also a perfect opportunity to become more familiar with 3D design software, 3D printing, and the Raspberry Pi. The main goal was to minimize hardware and cost and maximize the features...

Beer Can Mini Quad

Beer Can Mini Quad

When my WLToys V939 quadcopter stopped performing well, I didn't want to just scrap it. I wanted to salvage the flight controller and try my hand at building a custom frame. The pager motors used on most mini/micro quadcopters are only rated for a certain amount of hours before they lose their strength and functionality. The batteries also wear out with moderate use. I put in an order for some replacement motors and batteries and got to work building a mini quadcopter from the ground up.

No Knead Pizza with Homemade Sauce

No Knead Pizza with Homemade Sauce

I've been making homemade pizza dough and sauce for the past 8 years or so and I've tried many different methods. I think this no knead method is my favorite. It has turned out some of the best pizzas I've made throughout the years with minimal effort. You start by mixing up a "poolish" the night before you plan to make pizza and let it sit in the fridge overnight. This allows gluten to develop and makes the dough come out crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside...

Folger Tech Prusa i3 - 3D Printer

Folger Tech Prusa i3 - 3D Printer

I have been following 3D printing technology for a few years now. I've always thought it was an expensive technology that required $1,000+ to get into. Recently I stumbled upon the Folger Tech Prusa i3 3D printer kit. This kit was modeled after the open source Rep Rap Prusa i3 printer. It seemed like a very barebones kit with basic documentation. When I saw the price of $315 I decided to take the plunge into the 3D printing world and patiently waited for my kit to be delivered...
